Home > Bendi-Bus Bendi-Bus coming to your Wheels Route Soon! Catch a ride on a 60-foot articulated bus - also known as a "BendiBus" - in service on a Wheels route near you! Looking to improve service and passenger comfort, Wheels is currently deploying a larger bus on a trial basis within its fixed route system. This bus is longer than the standard-size 40-foot bus, and features a accordion-type joint in the middle to maximize its turning capability while operating on city and local streets. The BendiBus is a low-floor VanHool which has been generously lent to Wheels by the Alameda Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit), and has been wrapped in a promotional Spare-the-Air exterior. It is currently being deployed on routes 10, 12, 15, 70, 202, 603, and 609 on a rotating basis, and we will be looking for passenger input with regards to accessibility, convenience, and other factors that may be unique to this vehicle type. Most of this input will be gathered through onboard surveys, but we also welcome comments on the BendiBus via the online comment form on this website. The trial run is operated with one bus, and is being deployed in both weekday and weekend service, except as necessary for maintenance activities. The evaluation will last through February 28, 2009. See you on the BendiBus!
