McNerney Announces $3M in Funding For Bus Rapid Transit To Reduce I-580 Congestion

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) announced that as a result of his request, $3 million has been allocated for a bus rapid transit connection between the Dublin/Pleasanton BART station and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

“The congestion on I-580 is all too familiar to Tri-Valley residents.  More than just an inconvenience, the traffic means lost productivity, increased vehicle emissions, and people spending more time in their cars and away from their families,” Rep. McNerney said.

“This bus rapid transit project will connect BART riders to Livermore Lab, a major regional employment center, and touch other employment and residential centers along the way,” said Rep. McNerney.  “Offering commuters a viable, quick, easy-to-use option will help relieve some of the congestion on I-580.”

This project has the support of Dublin, Pleasanton, and Livermore through which the route would run, making stops in downtown Pleasanton and Livermore, and would be operated by the Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA).

Janet Lockhart, LAVTA chair and Dublin mayor, had this to say of the funding announcement: “We’re so fortunate to have such a strong advocate in Congressman McNerney.  Because of his sustainable energy plan, he has played a major role in expanding public transportation in the Tri-Valley. We look forward to this project’s positive impact on local infrastructure and our efforts to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality in the Tri-Valley.”
