"All Nighter" Closes the Late-Night Gap in Regional Transit Service

Expanded bus service connecting most BART stations during the late-night hours when BART trains don't run was officially launched on March 21, 2006.  Called the All Nighter, the service is a convenient option for those who work the late shift or go to events that run past midnight, when BART closes. The service, which runs from approximately 12:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. (and later on weekends), is operated by AC Transit, County Connection, Muni, SamTrans, and WHEELS.  A coordinated network with timed transfers has been created between their existing routes.

WHEELS’ Route 810 marks the first time that the transit system has operated westbound beyond the Dublin Grade. They received permission through the consortium to operate to the Bay Fair BART station, in order to offer passengers convenient connection to AC Transit’s Route 801 to reach Fremont and also downtown Oakland.

All Nighter benefits those who work at – or seek late-night jobs – For those who depend on transit to get to work; the All Nighter opens up a broader employment territory.

All Nighter benefits those who stay out late – WHEELS Route 810, from the Livermore Transit Center, operates hourly during the week and every half-hour on the weekends, with access to over 75 late-night venues that are within a 15-minute walk of the San Francisco portion of AC Transit’s Route 800.  These include theaters, restaurants, night clubs, and bars that stay open long beyond BART's closing time.

All Nighter provides a safe alternative to late-night driving – This is the period when there is a peak in drowsy drivers and alcohol-related crashes.

Detailed information about the All Nighter service, including a map and schedules, can be accessed on 511.org. Information is also available by calling 511 and saying, “All Nighter.”

WHEELS is a convenient way to travel throughout the Tri-Valley and is an excellent way to build a cleaner, healthier and less congested community.  For additional information on routes and schedules call 455-7500 or visit us online at www.wheelsbus.com.
