WHEELS Offers Ride-Free Bus Pass to Tri-Valley Middle School Students between August 22 - September 4, 2009

Livermore, CA --- August 3, 2009 --- Parents of middle school students bracing themselves for the usual traffic crunch associated with dropping off and picking up their student at school, can avoid the traffic snarls by taking advantage of the WHEELS Ride-Free bus pass offered to students during the first two weeks of the fall school year.  

The Ride-Free bus pass is valid on all WHEELS fixed route and School Tripper route service between August 22 and September 4, 2009.  The pass is not valid on Dial-A-Ride paratransit service.

With its current theme “Transit is the Green Way to Go” the campaign’s aim is to introduce young riders to their local transportation system as a way to enhance safety and mitigate traffic congestion around schools.  
 
“WHEELS is not only a convenient way for students to get to school, it’s an eco-friendly commute alternative that lessens the dependence on automobiles, the Bay Area’s number one source of air pollution. This campaign attempts to form smart transportation habits for these students” said Pleasanton Vice Mayor Jerry Thorne, and current Chair of the Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority.  

The WHEELS Ride-Free pass is being mailed directly to middle school students from their respective school district.  Students who have not received their pass by mid August should contact their school administration office. Dublin middle school students will receive their transit pass during registration.
