Wheels and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District present:  Ride Wheels FREE on "Spare the Air" Day.  Read below for more details!

Pulling Together for Clean Air

Wheels and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District will offer free rides to passengers who board Wheels fixed-route buses in Livermore, Pleasanton and Dublin, as well as the Prime Time route 70 Walnut Creek Express bus on formally declared "Spare the Air" days this summer.  The normal fixed-route fare is $1.25 per trip and the normal Prime Time Walnut Creek bus fare is $1.50.

About the Spare the Air program

The main component of the Spare the Air program is an advisory notice that can be e-mailed directly to participants alerting them that a Spare the Air day is going to occur.  The Spare the Air organizers are encouraging any person interested in the program to sign up individually.  Registrants are automatically entered into a drawing for incredible prizes.  Each year new registrations are needed, so previous participants will need to re-register to continue receiving notifications and to be eligible for this years prize drawing.  Follow the Spare the Air link below and click on "Sign Up For Email Notifications Now" to receive e-mail notices directly.  The Spare the Air website has been recently upgraded to provide much more information on the Spare the Air program.

How is a Spare the Air day predicted?

A "Spare the Air" day is any day between June 1st and October 15, 2004 when air quality in the Bay Area is predicted to exceed the health standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  The air quality forecasts (predictions) are made by Bay Area Air Quality Management District meteorologists shortly after noon on the day before the bad air day is predicted in an effort to encourage residents to modify daily habits in a way that reduces air pollution.  Funding for the Wheels Spare the Air days is provided by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.
