Clipper on Wheels
Clipper is the Bay Area’s reloadable card for paying transit fares. A Clipper card keeps track of the value on it and automatically deducts the right fare, including transfers and discounts. You can load a Wheels pass onto a Clipper card, a pass from another agency, cash value, or all of the above!
Get on the bus faster. Clipper can make your daily commute more convenient, and more secure. With a Clipper card, you can:
- Stop carrying multiple forms of payment (exact change, tickets, or passes)
- Automatically add value when your card balance is low, with the Autoload feature that you set up yourself with Clipper Customer Service
- Replace registered cards and restore the card’s balance for a small fee, if your card is lost, damaged, or stolen
Your Clipper Card is all you need to travel on these partner transit services:
County Connection, Tri Delta Transit, WestCAT and, of course, Wheels
You can also use Clipper on these Bay Area transit services:
AC Transit, BART, Caltrain, City Coach, FAST, Golden Gate Transit and Ferry, Marin Transit, SF Muni, SamTrans, San Francisco Bay Ferry, SolTrans, The VINE and VTA
What’s On Clipper?
You can use a 31-Day Pass or cash value on a Clipper card.
When paying with cash value, you must have a minimum balance of $1.75 on an adult or Youth card or 75 cents on a Senior or RTC Clipper card. No minimum cash value balance is required if you are using a 31-Day Pass.
A 31-Day Pass gives you unlimited rides on designated routes. You have the following options for 31-Day passes:
|Wheels 31-Day Pass||
|East Bay Regional Local
|East Bay Regional Express
All 31-Day passes are available for adult, youth, seniors and RTC customers.
A Day Pass gives you unlimited rides on a single day ($3.75 for adults and youth/$1.75 for senior and RTC customers). The Day Pass is a regional pass that is good on most Wheels, County Connection, Tri Delta Transit and WestCAT routes. You get the Day Pass discount automatically. Once you pay $3.75 in fares in a day ($1.75 for senior and RTC customers) on any combination of the participating transit services, your rides will be free of charge for the rest of that day. Free transfers and fares paid on WestCAT Lynx transbay service do not apply toward a Day Pass.
Clipper automatically grants you one free transfer from other Wheels, County Connection, Tri Delta Transit and WestCAT routes within a two-hour window.
When transferring from BART to Wheels, Clipper grants one discounted transfer for adult and youth riders only, followed by one additional free transfer to other Wheels, County Connection, Tri Delta Transit and local WestCAT routes within a two-hour window.
If you are transferring to a transit service that does not accept Clipper, you must request a paper transfer.
Wheels accepts Clipper Cards for fare payment as well as paper passes and tickets.
Tri-Valley Safeway stores do not, however, sell Clipper Cards but continue to sell Wheels paper passes and Fare Buster tickets.
