Wheels is once again offering free rides for Tri-Valley students as part of our Try Transit to School promotion. The promotion offers unlimited rides on all regularly scheduled Wheels and Rapid bus routes from August 8 through September 5, including weekends.

The purpose of the promotion is to introduce middle school and high school students to LAVTA's bus services and see how efficient and easy it is to ride transit to and from school. The free rides are not limited to school trips. Students can also use this opportunity to ride transit to hang out with friends or for work, shopping and other activities.

To take advantage of the promotion, students simply board the bus and ride. No ticket or pass is required. Route and schedule information is available on the LAVTA website at wheelsbus.com or by calling our Customer Service Center at (925) 455-7500.

If you added stops at the actual schools it may be more helpful, or maybe setting up school routes just for students would get more parents on board. Sending my 12 yr old daughter to the main transit center where adults are commuting to work, then to walk by herself the rest of the way to school just doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

My daughter did a dry run taking the bus to Granada this week (the 10R). It’s supposed to arrive at 8:24, but was 3 minutes late. Zero chance of making it on time to class (5 minute walk from the stop to school, not to mention getting to the classroom). The bus should arrive no later than 8:20 to ensure it works for students and give a couple minute buffer for a late arrival.

I think it should be the whole school Year everywhere Maybe more kids would come to school everyday and on time

How has yours kids experience been with this? Just looking for some feedback. Thank you in advance! 🙂

My kid did it today and thought it was awesome!

Good idea

Can someone post this one nextdoor, I'm having trouble with my app

You guys don’t seem to care and I’m being very serious! I’m not gonna say who told me but I’m now under the impression you clean your busses with dirty mop water and don’t Lysol your seats. I believe it too because the other day a bus stop smelled like straight up hard piss. Disgusting and unsanitary and I’m annoyed to have to deal with a dirty ass bus system to get to work. 🤢 and people in Livermore and Pleasanton practice social distancing just as much as San Franciscans… which is not much at all. Monkey pox covid yay! 🤮
