Wheels welcomes you back on board with even better and cleaner service and free rides the entire month of September!
Over the past 18 months, we have implemented new procedures and introduced new technologies to make riding the bus easier, cleaner and better than ever before. We want to welcome you back on board Wheels buses.
Enhanced cleaning procedures and new onboard features
We have implemented enhanced cleaning procedures onboard all buses, including disinfecting and fogging. High-touch areas onboard Wheels buses are disinfected frequently throughout each day. And passenger amenities at the Livermore Transit Center are disinfected twice each day. Buses are fogged before service every morning to disinfect all surfaces. We have installed barriers around the bus operator compartment to provide a safer environment for boarding and fare payment. We have also installed hand sanitizer dispensers near the front door on all buses.
Free rides for September
All of our bus services will be completely free from September 1 – 30. We are happy to welcome riders back onboard Wheels buses! Other East Bay Transit systems including County Connection, Tri Delta Transit and WestCAT will also be offering free rides during September. BART will be offering a 50% discount for the month of September.
Fresh, filtered air onboard
We have installed new air purifiers which continuously cycle clean air through all of our buses. These air purifiers use advanced technology to eliminate 99% of germs, viruses, and bacteria in the air and on surfaces, including SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
Get real-time information on when your bus will arrive with the Transit app. The app also tracks bus capacity, so you can find out how full your bus is.
Contactless payment with Clipper and Clipper Start
Use your Clipper card for contactless payment and pay your fare without touching the farebox. You can also now load your Clipper card onto your phone. Download the Clipper app on Google Play or the App Store to go completely mobile. Just tap your phone on the Clipper reader when you board, and you are on your way!
The Clipper card or app gives you free transfers to other buses for two hours, plus your card automatically becomes an unlimited use Day Pass upon payment of two fares.
Face masks still required onboard per Federal mandate
Through January 18, 2022, masks are required on all public transit vehicles, including buses, to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Masks must be worn over nose and mouth at all times while on board Wheels buses. Bus operators are also required to wear masks, and they have extra masks available for those who many not have a mask on hand.
Due to a severe shortage of bus drivers, Wheels needs to temporarily reduce the hours of service operated. In June of this year, morning and afternoon peak hour service on Routes 10R and 30R was incre...
