What is new in Clipper 2?

A faster, smarter Clipper has arrived. Next Generation Clipper has rolled out across Bay Area transit systems, bringing upgraded technology and new ways to pay your Wheels bus fare. With the new system, riders can:

  • Use any contactless payment card or mobile wallet (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.) directly onboard — no need for a separate Clipper card.
  • Manage everything online or in the Clipper app, including balance, payment methods, and autoload settings.
  • Enjoy faster updates when you reload or add passes.

What do you need to do?

Next Generation Clipper will make riding with Wheels — and connecting to other Bay Area transit — even easier.

  • The easiest way to check on the status of your Clipper card after Dec. 10 is to call Clipper Customer Service at 877-878-8883 and ask whether your card has been upgraded.
  • Continue using your Clipper card like normal. Your card will automatically be transitioned to Next Generation Clipper over time; this transition period may take eight to twelve weeks.

Clipper: the Bay Area’s all-in-one transit card

Clipper is Bay Area’s reloadable card for paying transit fares. Use your Clipper card to purchase single rides, day passes, or monthly passes. Your Clipper Card allows you to easily transfer to partner transit services. Clipper is now available in a mobile app for contactless payment.

If your Clipper Card has not been used in 6 months or more, you will need to reactivate it at any of the locations listed or by contacting Clipper Customer Service.

East Bay Day Pass

The Day Pass gives you unlimited rides for a single day on most Wheels, County Connection, Tri Delta Transit and WestCAT routes ($3.75 for adults, youth, & Clipper START/$1.75 for senior and RTC customers).

The Day Pass discount is applied automatically. Once you pay $3.75 in fares in a day ($1.75 for senior and RTC customers) on any combination of the participating transit services, your rides will be free of charge for the rest of that day. Clipper Cards still need to be tagged to show the drivers the passenger have paid the fare.
