Wheels Para-Taxi Reimbursement Program 

The Wheels Para-Taxi Program is a premium paratransit service, which provides flexible same-day transportation service for ADA-certified Wheels Dial-A-Ride riders by reimbursing riders for taxi (including rideshare) service. 

Why use the Para-Taxi Program?

The Para-Taxi Program is inexpensive, convenient, and comfortable

• Easily book on the same day of your ride. 
• You don’t have to share the ride and can get to your destination faster.
• Using a PEX debit card can pay for 85% of para-taxi fares when 15% of the total fare is preloaded.
• The final cost after the reimbursement is often less than a Dial-A-Ride ticket. 
• There is no extra charge for an additional passenger traveling with you.

What is a PEX card?

PEX is the para-taxi debit card, a convenient new para transit payment method from Wheels for trips originating in the Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore service area.

What are the advantages of PEX and how does it work?

You only pay for your discounted fare instead of the full fare and having to fill out paperwork or wait for reimbursement. Simply load 15% of the total value to be added on the card and Wheels will add the other 85%. Other para-taxi rules and restrictions still apply.

• Wheels will cover 85% up to $30 maximum per one-way ride. The maximum amount that can be charged on the Para-Taxi Debit Card for each ride is $34.50 (Wheels portion of $30 and rider’s portion of $4.50).
• If the ride costs more than $34.50, the remainder is covered by the rider using a different payment method. Riders may choose the reimbursement-based system to pay for higher-cost rides.
• The maximum amount that can be charged on the debit card per month is $345.00 (Wheels portion of $300 and rider’s portion of $45.00).
• If a wheelchair accessible vehicle is required, Wheels will cover the accessible cab surcharge ($15) in addition to the up to $30 per ride. In this case the maximum amount that can be charged on the PEX card per ride is $49.50 and up to $335.30 per month.

How to use the Para-Taxi Program?

Directly book a taxi, Uber, or Lyft and and pay with PEX or get reimbursed

1. Directly book a taxi, Uber or Lyft

2. Pay your taxi, Uber or Lyft driver the full meter fare at the end of your trip. Use your PEX card or if seeking reimbursement, ask the driver for a receipt.
